Modern Creative Kokeshi, Yoshida, 17-1/4"

Quantity Available: 1
Inventory Number: 72043
NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Takashi Yoshida
SIZE: 17-1/4" (44cm)
CONDITION: Several short, wide and shallow dents in one spot on the back of the head. Longer (1/2") but shallow dent toward the bottom of the hair in back and some light scratches also on the back of the head. The yellow underkimono has some chipping at the neck and also down the slit and at the bottom. It is yellow underneath so it's not terribly noticeable. It's also the reason it chipped - a thicker coat of paint that dries out is more apt to chip.
The mark on her chin is NOT a dent or scratch. It looks like a dark line in the wood. She does have age spots on her face, mostly on the forehead. The bottom is coated with a clear(ish) substance. Guess it was done to protect the wood or the surface she stands on.
NOTES: Mr. Yoshida was born in 1948 and has passed much too soon in 2007. He started his career in kokeshi crafting "late" in life in 1978 under Insosuke Kobayashi. He won multiple awards including the Prime Minister prize.
The name of the piece is "Miyabi" which translates to "Elegance". The design is all carved.
You'll probably never see another doll like this. This is the tallest Yoshida doll I have seen. A 3D nose on this type of doll usually indicates a higher end doll.
