NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Masao Watanabe
SIZE: 8-1/8" (20.6cm)
CONDITION: Older doll with related issues. Varying sized dents from minor to medium. On the front side is a small dent by the right eye, and two dents under the green circle. Also a few dings and light scratch on the left side of the face and some dings along the top edge of the body.
NOTES: Mr. Watanabe was born in 1917 and passed in 2007. Winner of many awards including top prize, the Prime Minister Award several times.
This doll is unique in that the head is purposely not attached. You can angle it any way to get a variety of different looks. (See 3rd picture).
For a perspective on price, the same doll, same height, sold elsewhere a year and a half ago for over $120 more than this.
