NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi of a flutist (flautist)
MAKER: Sansaku Sekiguchi
SIZE: 12" (30.5cm) including her hat and stand.
CONDITION: Three deeper scratches on the back of the head and a small dent or two elsewhere. She is not attached to the stand but was originally glued on.
NOTES: Mr. Sekiguchi was born in 1925 and is still busy creating his masterpieces. He is a multi-award winning artist which includes multiple prime minister awards. He is perhaps the most known kokeshi maker worldwide.
Lovely shaped doll. Very Sekiguchi face and bangs - older style. This is not a small doll. She weighs 3-1/4 pounds. This doll is more artistic and detailed than the other two dolls listed (72985 & 72987). She is made of beautiful keyaki wood and has finer details, including a belt that has been carved and a nice stand.
