NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Sanpei Yamanaka*
SIZE: 5-7/8" (15cm)
CONDITION: The hair has some fading and the red lines have faded. Wood flaw or defect on the upper left side of the body.
NOTES: Mr. Yamanaka, born in 1926, is an award winning photographer and kokeshi artist. Dated on the bottom 1970.
*Sanpei's style is very unique. Although this doll is not signed, I guarantee it's his doll. He incorporates the wood coloring/grain into the design. On this doll, he has split the face with darker/lighter wood. On body, it's front and back with the contrast.
