Modern Creative Kokeshi, Masao Watanabe, 11-1/2"
Sold
Modern Japanese creative kokeshi by highly awarded artist, Masao Watanabe (1917-2007). The title of the doll is "Mushin" or translated, "Innocence" and she measures 11-1/2" tall.
A very popular doll, she comes in different colors and sizes. To describe the unusual design, it looks and feels like stucco. There are little specs of sand like particles mixed with paste like material, in this case, frosty white, and applied to the doll. This finish is one of the lighter colors. It's a little lighter than appears in the picture. More commonly seen is brown.
It difficult to see flaws on the body. There is a small indention on the left front side and a small hole in the back but both have the finish or specks in or on them so they were there at the time of creation. A small crack can be seen on a knot in the back. On the head, by the left cheek, there is a cluster of small dents or pits. Other than that, there are very few dents/scratches. The picture shows a dirty spot on the right side of the face but that has been safely removed.
