Modern Creative Kokeshi, Kobayashi, 18" #73223
Sold
NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Inosuke Kobayashi
SIZE: 18-1/8" (47.5cm), weight over 6.5 pounds
CONDITION: The doll came apart, probably during transit. It was simply the glue failing with age. The peg is intact. It'll be easier to ship in two pieces. Once she's in her new home, she can be reattached with white glue, wood glue or a glue gun. You can usually "feel" when the pieces come together as original. In this case, the tie should be on the right side.
There is a dent on her face and a small chip in the wood by her chin. Various other smaller dents and/or scratches - nothing else is really noticeable. The dent on the face is noticeable because it's what's being photographed. When displayed, because she is such a big doll, I'm not so sure it will be apparent.
Kobayashi's slender tall dolls generally command more than the stockier dolls. This price has been adjust for it's difficulties.
NOTES: Design is done by carving and the burnt wood technique.
Inosuke Kobayashi was born in 1931. He has passed but haven't been able to pinpoint the year. Multi prize winner including the coveted Prime Minister award in 1979. My information only goes to 1983.
