  • Modern Creative Kokeshi, Kato, 3-in-1
  • Modern Creative Kokeshi, Kato, 3-in-1 Modern Creative Kokeshi, Kato, 3-in-1

NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi, name translates to Three Smiling Children, signature board (not pictured).

MAKER: Tatsuo Kato

SIZE: 13-1/4" (33.2cm), diameter 9-1/8", weight 16 pounds

CONDITION: A very small vertical dent above the nose of the obi girl. There are a few dents and scratches on the hair in various places. No big deal and really, who's going to notice?

NOTES: Tatsuo Kato was born in 1940 and started creating kokeshi in 1960 under master craftsman Sansaku Sekiguchi. He has won numerous awards.

The doll(s) are dated May 1, 1986. Perhaps it was done for Children's day, May 5th. The kimono on each side is different. Only a touch of color - the eyes, lips and underkimono at the necks. One doll also has a tie with color. The carved design on each kimono is the same. The obi has a different design.

This was another OMG moment for me. I couldn't imagine what huge doll I was pulling out. To my surprise, it was Kato's doll times 3! It was purchased as I liked the smiling face and I like Mr. Kato's work - period. I didn't bother to study the pictures or translate the information. Had I done so, I would have found 3 dolls in one, all with different kimono. This is such an incredible doll, I cannot tell you. I have never seen anything like it - ever. Adorable, wonderful, unique, perhaps one of a kind or close to it.

For U.S. addresses, we reserve the right choose the shipping method/class as cost depends on location.
