Antique Japanese doll measuring 8-3/4" tall and the stand, 2-7/8" x 3-1/2". She is exquisite; she is rare; she is the Merchant's Daughter. Dating to Meiji Period (1868-1912) when the merchants were the wealthy class, she is so wonderfully detailed. Her hands are gracefully poised, her big toes are pointed up and you can even see her tongue inside her mouth! The hands and feet are carved wood and the finish is gofun (oyster shell). The hand dyed silk crepe kimono has some fading (not unexpected for a 100 year old doll). Other than that, she is in very good condition.
