NAME: Keshi Ningyo of the Aoi Matsuri (festival) parade in Kyoto, NO LID
SIZE: The dolls are around 3/4" tall (some variations).
The box measures 6-5/8" long x 2-1/4" deep.
CONDITION: Short version, older set (40's-60's), 9 figures, ox w/cart and steps. Figures are COMPLETE but no box lid.
Little corrosion of the paint on the left side of the face of the dark blue figure. The cart poles have become unattached from the ox, pulling off a spot of paint. The silk has faded and has wear (holes) on the front and back edges.
NOTES: Aoi Matsuri (Hollyhock Festival) or Kamo Festival is held on May 15th and is one of the three big festivals held in Kyoto every year. The style of the parade is fashioned from the Heian Period Court and everything is adorned with hollyhock.
