Kashigata, Japanese Sweet Cake Mold w/Cover, Bamboo

NAME: Japanese carved wood kashigata or sweet/sugar cake mold, 2 piece, bamboo design

SIZE: 3-15/16" (10.1cm) x 7-1/16" (18cm) x 1-5/8 (4.2cm) deep

CONDITION: Groove on the top edge of the mold which may be an old bug trail. Small gouge in the top of the lid and it's a little warped. Sits flat but rises a bit in the middle. The pegs that hold the two pieces together are missing. Less than normal wear and tear.

NOTES: These were classified as "antique" where it was purchased. It came from a long established sweet shop, now closed.

The design is of bamboo. Nice detail.

The design on the kashigata is hand carved. There is usually a lot of detail and should be considered miniature works of art. As I understand, there are very few craftsmen making these today.
