NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a tiger, representing the "Year of the Tiger", in original envelope.

SIZE: Height 3-5/8" (9.2cm) to the top point, 5-7/8" (15cm) at the longest point

CONDITION: Some dark horizontal lines are natural coloring of the wood. Dark splotch by the mouth, spotty splotch on the right "shoulder" and bare spot on the chest all may be flaws from the time of it's creation. Hard to tell exactly the cause.

NOTES: Part of a collection from Japan

An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
