NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a dog representing the "year of the dog"

SIZE: Height 3-7/8" (9.9cm) to the top point, 6" (10.3cm) long, 5/8" (1.5cm) thick

CONDITION: There are some dents along the bottom edge and light scratches on the front. Some longer scratches on the back as well as a stain.

NOTES: Part of a collection from Japan. Much thicker than normal. Dated on the back 1/17/1981.

An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
