Ema Japanese Prayer Board, Tiger (#30920)

  • Ema Japanese Prayer Board, Tiger (#30920) Ema Japanese Prayer Board, Tiger (#30920)

NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a folk tiger on wheels, representing the "Year of the Tiger".

SIZE: Height 4-3/8" (11.3cm) to the top point, 4-1/2" (11.5cm) at the longest point.

CONDITION: Has thicker paint in some areas and the paint is scraping, chipping or rubbing off in spots. The blue paint is aged and is somewhat powder-like. Not perfect but the condition issues add to the appeal of this board (my opinion).

NOTES: Ema boards are either hand painted, silk screened or some other process used for the art work. This board is definitely hand painted.

An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
