NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a Tiger, representing the "Year of the Tiger", in original envelope

SIZE: Height 3-3/8" (8.7cm) to the top point, 5-1/16" (13cm) at the longest point.

CONDITION: Little wood missing in the lower right corner but it probably was done in the sawing process.

NOTES: Tiger is sitting on a stand with a painted tiger.

An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
