NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a snake representing the "Year of the Snake".

SIZE: Height 3-3/8" (8.8cm) to the top point, 5-1/2" (14cm) at the longest point

CONDITION: Small scrape under the stamp. The wood coloring has bled through onto the snake. There is a piece of tape attached to the top of the board. It once held a few tips of rice plants. All that is left now is a stem.

NOTES: An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
