Ema Japanese Prayer Board, Noh - Hagoromo

NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a charactor from the play "Hagoromo"

SIZE: Height 5-3/16" (13.2cm) to the top point,4-1/4" (11cm) long

CONDITION: There is a dent and a few scratches under the fan and others toward the top of the board. It is made of a soft wood and does dent and scratch easily.

NOTES: Part of a collection from Japan

An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.

Dated 6/20/1980 (Showa 55). Very well done piece with nice detailing.
