NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a dragon representing the "Year of the Dragon", (current year, 2012)

SIZE: Height 4-1/2" (11.6cm) to the top point, 6-11/16" (17.1cm) at the longest point

CONDITION: Made of a soft wood, which is prone to damage. There are assorted light dents, dings and scratches on both sides. The board is darker than the picture indicates.

NOTES: A typical Japanese dragon has 3 claws as this one shows. Similar to #30858 (same artist).

An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
