NAME: Japanese ema or prayer board with a dragon representing the "Year of the Dragon", (current year, 2012). Attached to the top is the tip of a rice stalk or stem with rice in it's hull.

SIZE: Height 3-3/8" (9.6cm) to the top point, 5-7/16" (14cm) at the longest point

CONDITION: Dings on the back. The cord is thick and short. It is not knotted.

NOTES: A typical Japanese dragon has 3 claws as this one shows.

An ema board or prayer board is a method by which people make wishes, prayers or thanks to the dieties by writing it down on the board and hanging it at a shrine. The art work traditionally depicts the Zodiac animals, historic stories, folklore characters and stories, etc., but modern characters are also included now.
