  • Japanese Festival Naruko (Clapper) Pair
  • Japanese Festival Naruko (Clapper) Pair

NAME: Japanese vintage pair of traditional lacquered wood festival clappers called, "naruko".

SIZE: 7-7/8" (20cm) long and 3-1/4" (8.3cm) at the widest point

CONDITION: The old lacquer had "bubbled" up at some point so the lacquer is not smooth everywhere. One is clapper is worse than the other. Few of the bubbles popped and a small bits of paint are missing. Some dents and other small bits of paint missing but nothing major or that interferes with it's purpose.

NOTES: Had come in with items from the 50's-60's that a travelling father picked up for his kids as souvenirs.

This set is traditionally painted, black and yellow beaters, three on each side. Originally use was to scare away birds from the rice fields in Kochi Prefecture.
