NAME: Tiny Japanese ittobori style carving of Noh character Okina w/wood box

MAKER: May be a maker signature and stamp on box

SIZE: 1-7/16" tall, the box is 2" x 1-3/16 x 1-3/8"

CONDITION: Excellent

NOTES: Briefly, Ittobori is a carving technique. The name literally means "one chisel cut". You see the angles made by the chisel, they are not smoothed out. An art form that goes back hundreds of years, the most popular subjects are Noh and the 12 Animals of the Zodiac.

This Noh carving is of Okina. Okina is a piece that is performed as part of a Noh program for New Year's or other special occasion and is also the name of the character.
