About me: I am third generation Japanese American currently living on the West Coast. As far back as I can remember, I've always had a love of everything Japanese. In the mid 90's, I had opened a retail antique store in Chicago called Kyoto Traditions as most of what I carried came from Kyoto. Since closing, I have been considering different ways to showcase my treasures. The website seems ideal. It's a great outlet, enabling me to stay in touch with that which is nearest and dearest to me. Since Kyoto Traditions can mean old or new, I decided to retain the name.
About this site: The antiques are part of the inventory from the store, but my interests have detoured into the folk arts area. The majority of the items here can be classified as folk art. I am also very happy to be able to introduce the traditional kokeshi of Kijidokoro Sato. New traditional kokeshi are not readily available outside of Japan. I hope to help change that and expand this area in the near future.
There are so many different types of Japanese folk arts. What's listed here is just a start. Feel free to email with questions.
