NAME: Japanese Daruma "kokeshi" doll

MAKER: Issetsu Kuribayashi (modern kokeshi artist)

SIZE: 6" (15.1cm), diameter 4" (10cm)

CONDITION: Flea bite ding on his beard and some dents - two along the top edge front, larger one on the lettering, two on the left sleeve and several others on the left and right sides. Hardly noticeable because of the darker stain and wood grain.

NOTES: Mr. Kuribayashi was born in 1924 and started making creative kokeshi about 1955. He has won multiple awards including the prime minister award several times.

The wood is beautiful, the face is carved as is typical of many of Mr. Kuribayashi's kokeshi dolls.
