NAME: Creative Japanese kokeshi of a folk craft doll called "Hakota doll", original gift box
MAKER: Yokoyama (Teruo may be given name)
SIZE: 14-1/8" (36cm)
CONDITION: Unused. There are some wood age spots on the face.
NOTES: There is a famous folk craft paper mache doll called a Hakota Doll or "naive country girl" in Japan. You can google images "Hakota doll" and see examples. This kokeshi is made exactly like that doll.
Hakota is a regional term. This doll is entitled Oboko-museme which means naive girl.
Items that combine folk crafts are among my very favorites. I love this doll!!
