Quantity Available: 1
Inventory Number: 70591
NAME: Creative Japanese kokeshi nodders of Yaji & Kita in a hot tub.
MAKER: Unknown
SIZE: 2" tall, hot tub diameter 1-7/8"
CONDITION: Few small nicks and dents on the hot tub (soft wood).
NOTES: Yaji-san and Kita-san were fictional charaters in a comical novel called Hizakurige or Shank's Mare. They were bumbling travelers and the story tells of their misadventures on the Tokaido Road between Kyoto and Edo (now Tokyo). Some say they were on a pilgrimage to Kyoto but others say they wanted to escape their wives. This scene has them in a hot tub, towels on their heads and sake bottle and cup near at hand.
The hot tub looks to be made of Cryptomeria Japonica or Japanese cedar. The trees with this lovely grain grows in only one area of Japan.
