NAME: Creative Japanese kokeshi of Yaji & Kita

MAKER: Unknown

SIZE: 4"

CONDITION: Mint in box.

NOTES: Yaji-san and Kita-san were fictional charaters in a comical novel called Hizakurige or Shank's Mare. They were bumbling travelers and the story tells of their misadventures on the Tokaido Road between Kyoto and Edo (now Tokyo). Some say they were on a pilgrimage to Kyoto but others say they wanted to escape their wives.

This set is unusual as far as shape. Their "legs" were shaved down to very thin and then expand again to create a stand.

This product was added to our catalog on Saturday 20 June, 2009.
