NAME: Vintage Japanese creative kokeshi of "Jirocho of Shimizu" w/pine tree & Mt. Fuji, MIB

SIZE: 4-5/8" (11.8cm) high to Mt. Fuji. Stand is 5-13/16" x 2"

CONDITION: Mint

NOTES: His name is on the sign post and hat. The pine tree is as green as can be. Normally with age, the needles would be brown and the tree falling apart. Nicely made diorama. Even the stand has been stained dark.

Shimizu no Jirocho (1820-1893) was a historical Yakuza (Japanese mafia) boss. Some of the terms describing him are "outlaw turned hero", "robin hood", "godfather", "gangster boss", "legendary gambler boss but chivalrous". He was also an undefeated swordsman and reformed himself at the age of 48. He helped develop Shimizu Port and is believed to be the first to have founded an English Conversational School.
