Quantity Available: 1

Inventory Number: 72464

  • Creative Kokeshi Pair, Takasago, 17-7/8" Creative Kokeshi Pair, Takasago, 17-7/8"

NAME: Creative Japanese kokeshi pair with the Old Couple of Takasago

MAKER: Hideo

SIZE: 17-7/8" (45.5cm), combined weight is 8-1/2 pounds

CONDITION: Big dolls fall hard and tend to damage more heavily than small dolls. The doll with Jo (male) has dents of varying size. The larger ones include couple on the back of the head, couple on the back of the body, one behind Jo and one under the left hair tuft. The others are smaller. There are also lights scratches (two vertical ones by the left eye) and some dings (one above the right eye). There is also a small chip in the white paint of the beard of Jo .

The other doll has a large dent behind Uba. The other dents are smaller and mostly in the back. There are also some light scratches.

NOTES: The signature on the bottom says Hideo but the characters are not the same as Hideo Isihara. Cheerful faces and very nice artwork, especially the pine tree with cones. Unfortunately, I can only use three pictures and couldn't fit the pine or plum.

For a little perspective on their size and weight, had you purchased these in Japan the postage would have cost $128.00 for air or $93.00 SAL to the U.S.

The "Old Couple" is a noh play. The man's name is Jo and carries a rake and his wife is Uba with broom in hand. They symbolize long life and happiness and these story dolls are often given as wedding gifts. He rakes in the good, she sweeps out the bad.

These will ship to U.S. addresses parcel post, fully insured. International customers will be invoiced for the shipping over the U.S. cost to ship (will not be of much help since these will go by snail mail). For an approximate idea of costs, Canada willl be $50, Australia $80 and most everyone else in between.
