Creative Kokeshi Pair, Sasaki, 9-3/8"

NAME: Creative Japanese kokeshi pair

MAKER: Isao Sasaki

SIZE: 9-3/8" (23.7cm), combined weight is just over 3 pounds

CONDITION: Few minor dents on the body of the red doll and one 5/16" (little wider than normal) dent on the back of the black doll's head.

NOTES: Isao Sasaki was born Nov. 11, 1960. He has won multiple awards including an award for this pair. The name given the red doll is "Ume Kokeshi" or plum kokeshi.

The Sasaki family of makers (father and wife) have other dolls similar to this style. I have seen them referred to as Sendai dolls here, but in Japan, they are not grouped with a special name. The Sasaki's are not even in Sendai!

These are not small dolls. I was very surprised at their size when I first got them in. Still one of my favorite creative dolls, having been one of the first things I kept when I started buying in Japan.
