  • Creative Japanese Kokeshi Nodder Pair, Stunning! Creative Japanese Kokeshi Nodder Pair, Stunning!

Pair of creative Japanese kokeshi nodders with the female measuring 4-3/4" the male 4-7/8".

Probably the finest and most intricate (female) painting I have seen on dolls this size. Both show their under kimono at the neckline and sleeves. The back shows their tied obi as well as part of the inner slit of the sleeves (never have seen this) with a tiny bit of the female's designed underkimono showing also. The female, additionally, shows a bit of the obi age (sash, often silk crepe with shibori or tie dyed desgin) peeking out over the obi.

The male's kimono is simple, butterflies with red antennae as the pattern. The female is increible. You can readily see the design on the collar of her pink underkimono and a little of the pink color shows at the sleeve. What might be a second underkimono also shows at the sleeves and the design is very intricate, probably a shibori (tie dyed) design. You can see her obi age (sash or tie under the obi) readily with the shibori very obvious. Then there is the obi - stunning. The background color is red, the design is of large mums outlined in white with an additional grayish color on some of the petals. They both have a blue ring painted at the bases. Not sure what that represents.

Condition is very good with a few light dents on the head of the female. The blue in the male's obi is worn a bit.

Fabulous, unusual pair. They are both signed on the bottom.
