Two vintage Japanese wooden folk craft figures. These are a part of a family collection of folk crafts from the 50's and 60's. The father traveled to all parts of Japan on business and would bring home souvenirs for the family.
One figure is of a monster-like figurine. The hair is made of paper and the stripes are also applied paper. It measures 5" tall, not including the hair.
The totem is a tree branch with two children carved in it, measuring 9-1/4" tall with a diameter of 1-1/4". The design on the kids is wood burnt. The non-carved parts still have the bark attached. The girl measures 2-1/4" and the boy, 2-3/8". They are very detailed for the size. The design includes kimono, belt tie, geta straps, ribbon or ear, hands and both hold flowers. It's in excellent condition and looks to be signed on the bottom. Quite an amazing piece of art work.
