Antique Japanese "doll" of a Boy's Day (traditionally May 5th) Horse in glass case. Dates to Taisho period (1912-26). The white horse measures about 10" high with it's body about 6" long and has glass eyes and is paper mache. (For a little background on paper mache, please see "Definitions" under the Information section at left). The case is a beautiful black lacquered case with 2 mother of pearl decorations on the bottom front and measures 12-1/2" high, by 12 long x 6-1/2" deep. It's in excellent condition and still has what is probably the original silk cord tied around the case.
