Antique Kashigata, Japanese Sweet Cake Mold, Dragon Ship

NAME: Antique Japanese carved wood kashigata or sweet/sugar cake mold, 2 piece, dragon ship design

SIZE: 4-1/2" (11.5cm) x 6-1/2" (16.6cm) x 1-1/2 (3.8cm) deep

CONDITION: There looks like some bug or rodent damage on the lower part of the boat as well as the cover piece - the top edge and the top and bottom of the boat outline. One piece is slightly warped so the pieces are not completely flush.

NOTES: These were labelled "antique" where I purchased them, probably from 1900 to 1950. The design has a bamboo branch with many leaves and a new shoot sprouting.

The design on the kashigata is hand carved. There is usually a lot of detail and should be considered miniature works of art. As I understand, there are very few craftsmen making these today.
