NAME: Antique Japanese Samurai costume doll, sitting
AGE: Early Showa (1926-1989), c1930's
SIZE: 11-1/8" (27.5cm)
CONDITION: The doll has a hairline crack that runs vertically under the right ear and a small tuft of his right eyebrow needs to be glued down.
Part of the top layer of cloth is missing off the sash in the back and one small bug hole can also be seen on the lower back. The armor is fraying on some of the panel edges (made of cardboard/paper). The inside left foot and stool bottom looks like it was gnawed by bugs or rodent.
He has his stool and no other accessories. He was once attached to a stand as there are holes for pegs in the bottom of his feet.
NOTES: It is hansome doll with a strong face. The hands are carved wood. A maker's signature is thought to be on the neck stem. Even without accessories, he displays very nicely.
