Antique Japanese Samurai Diorama Doll Set, Taisho Period

NAME: FABULOUS antique Samurai diorama set from Taisho Period (1912-26) with original wooden crate

Included is the doll, the room (stand with tatami mats, 3 walls of a wood frame holding arrows), 2 small tables, the sword, knife and stand for them, a lacquered bench with his armor, a fur rug, fan, saihai (baton) and holder for them.

SIZE: The doll is approx. 15-3/4" x 9" (40cm x 23cm). This will give you an idea of the size of the room.

The crate roughly measures 25" x 14" x 10". The shipping weight of the set, double boxed, is 20 pounds.

CONDITION: In excellent condition. It was found with Taisho newpaper and was stored well. There are a few minor details missing (see below).

Have decided not uncrated it as it was received well packed. The more handling, the greater risk of damage. The doll has been checked and is undamaged. The condition is as in the picture.

NOTES: The following is the information that came with the set. It was in Japanese and the translation may not be perfect.

1. The "general" is wearing a "hitatare" (formal court robe of the samurai).

2. The box was marked "Matsuzakaya" which is one of the oldest department strores in Japan (dates back to 17th century).

3. It was found with Taisho newspaper, was kept "very importantly" so items are in a very beautiful state.

4. There is something (winding stem?) missing from the helmet and there are no metal fittings in wooden frame holding the arrows on right side in the picture.

5. The knife comes out of the sheath and Mt. Fuji is hand drawn on the sword stand.

6. The doll is 40cm in height and 23cm in width.

Very rare piece. I have seen only one other as elaborate as this that sold in Japan and a couple of simple ones with the doll on a stand and 2 or 3 walls of arrows. I also have listed an arrow room only (no doll). See #11030.

This will ship to U.S. addresses at no extra charge, either parcel post or priority, depending on where the delivery address is located. This is an oversized packaged and will charged a surcharge by the post office to ship priority. For international, the comparable cost will be deducted off the shipping total and a paypal invoice will be sent covering the difference.
