  • Antique Japanese Horse, "Formal" Antique Japanese Horse, "Formal"

NAME: Antique Japanese Horse "dressed" in a formal or festive costume w/original wood box. (Boys Day Doll)

AGE: Taisho to early Showa (1920's-30's)

SIZE: Horse is approx. 8" (20cm), length of about 9-3/4" (24.5cm), the stand is 12-1/2" x 4-5/8" x 1-1/2"

CONDITION: Some general age staining (yellowing) and the left shoulder has a small matted spot.

The stand has a crack near the corner that is nearest the front right leg of the horse. (Can be displayed on either side so the stand does not have a front and back).

The box has some chips and cracks and is missing the bars on the top and bottom of the lid which does not allow the lid to stay in place.

NOTES: Very fine and unusually dressed horse in a walking stance. The front leg is often raised on these Boy's Day display horses but this one also has the rear leg bent back at the joint indicating movement also. The gold decoration is the couching stitch, which was sewn by hand. Paper mache with glass eyes.

Because of the size and weight of the box, this will ship to U.S. address via Parcel Post, fully insured. For international purchase, the cost of shipping less the U.S. cost will be invoiced. The box can be dumped if desired.
