Antique Japanese Hina Palanquin

NAME: Antique Japanese Hina lacquered wood palanquin, original wood storage box

AGE: Early Showa (1926-1988), c30's

SIZE: The stand is 11-3/4" x 4". The palanquin compartment is 3-1/4" across. This should give a good idea of the size.

CONDITION: Needs work and repairs. Lot of age related issues.

First, it needs airing out as the Japanese equivalent of moth balls were inside the box. Originally, there were strings holding the pieces in place. These strings are broken or tangled. The roof/carrier bar of the palanquin is not attached. There are thin strips of metal which I believe go between the roof and the bar. Both pieces of metal are broken. The red cloth on the stand is very faded. One of the tassels has completely shredded and the one pole holder needs to be glued back in place.

NOTES: There is nice detail including metal trim. Two red stamps on the lid as well as some writing. May be the maker name or place of manufacture.
