Antique Japanese Doll, Amorous Woman, RARE!
Sold
NAME: Antique Japanese costume doll of an amorous or lecherous woman.
AGE: Taisho (1912-1926).
SIZE: Approx 15" (38cm). The stand is 9-1/2" x 7-7/8".
CONDITION: The doll was glued to her geta/stand and came off during transit here. She sustained some damage to the gofun finish under and around her feet. She needs to be glued in place for safety, but it will be easier to ship separate. I will leave that to the buyer. Her clothes and "skin" have light soiling. She carries a cluster of glass beads that were finished to look like pearls. They were dirty and sticky and upon wiping them, the finish came off. I'm not sure if they are original to the doll.
NOTES: Her face and kimono are quite eloquent. The kimono and underkimono are made of silk crepe. Her obi is also of silk. She has the traditional gofun finish. The hands are feet are carved wood and well done. She has fingers, toes, and toenails. Her eyes are painted. The surface of stand has been carved with grooves for an uneven ground look.
Never have seen a Japanese doll such as this before. Most of the dolls are heroic, historic or folklore characters. This one is most interesting and quite rare.
