Ainu Carved Pair & House Japanese Folk Craft

A pair of vintage carved figures in front of a house by the Ainu of Hokkaido. Ainu are the native ethnic group in Hokkaido, the northest region of Japan. They are a distinct ethnic group based on a Shaman religion. The Smithsonian recently put together a very interesting exhibit on the Ainu.
The standing figure is 1-1/4" tall. Overall height of the piece is 2-3/4". Some of the natural tree bark left on the back of the piece has flaked off.
This is part of a family collection of folk crafts from the 50's and 60's. The father traveled to all parts of Japan on business and would bring home souvenirs for the family.
