NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi
MAKER: Kazuo Takamizawa
SIZE: 9-1/4" (23.6cm)
CONDITION: Excellent
NOTES: The design is carved and done well. The head is made from a lovely grained wood, probably keyaki (zelkova). The hair and body are probably dogwood. She is quite striking. It's probably the natural wood color against the black (which is not a common color used).
NOTES: Mr. Takamizawa was born in 1927. He is a multi-award winning artist including the Prime Minister Award, and I think retired.
