111Modern Creative Kokeshi, Suigai Sato, 19-3/4"

  • 111Modern Creative Kokeshi, Suigai Sato, 19-3/4"
  • 111Modern Creative Kokeshi, Suigai Sato, 19-3/4"

NAME: Modern creative Japanese kokeshi, name translate, roughly, to "Spring", original box

MAKER: Suigai Sato

SIZE: 19-3/4"

CONDITION: Several 1/2" dents on the left bangs to the left side of the hair, two being a little deeper than "normal". Several other minor dents or light scratches on the rest of the head and body.

The box is battered - dented, age stained and dirty.

NOTES: Suigai Sato was born in 1920. He is a multiple award winning artist including the Prime Minister Award in 1966. (Information is only to 1983).

Carved grooves around the whole body except where the obi is. Cherry or plum blossoms decorate the front. (It's supposed to be very difficult to tell cherry blossoms and plum blossoms apart in real life, impossible from a picture unless there is some other indication). The body has a light silver "wash".

This is one of Mr. Sato's taller creations. He does quite a few tall, narrow dolls but this particular one does not come up too often. Old newspaper in the box indicates 1974, which is probably the age of this doll.

There is no getting around the high cost of shipping, especially on large, heavy packages to the East Coast. Ground is about the same as priority so priority has been set up in the calculator.
